Baby Alice

Five weeks ago we had one of the best days ever, the day baby Alice arrived! She was born July 14th, 7lb 7oz, 19.5 inches at 8:51am. I went into the hospital on her due date with suspicions that my water was leaking, and it turned out I was right. Funnily enough, we had planned to take the hospital tour that night (just a tiny bit of procrastinating), but instead I was admitted and induced! Fortunately for me I was one of those jerks that had an amazing pregnancy and an amazing birth. I was able to experience both painful contractions and then a pain-free delivery thanks to the eipdural, and after less than twelve hours of labor and twenty minutes of pushing she came out (with a head full of hair)! It was quite an experience to watch family, friends, and a team of doctors around me as I pushed and they cheered me on.

The first week home was an absolute shock for me. She has been a perfect baby, she sleeps amazingly at night and during naps, breast-feeds well, is healthy, only cries when she’s hungry, but I did get hit with PPD thanks to all of the hormones that come along with post-partum life. I went on meds and was instantly straightened out, so thankful for that option! I enjoy her company so much and she sleeps spooning me every night. It’s a huge life change but I know she will fit in just perfectly with us. So far she has been to Chattanooga, lots of restaurants, dad’s work, grandma’s house, the lake, a block party, friend’s houses, shopping, and has had many visitors. Next week she takes her first flight to Florida, and in October we’ll visit Czech Republic for her to meet family there! I was hesitant to take her out so early but I wanted to get over my anxiety about driving with her.

She is such a great baby, we basically stare at her constantly and talk about how great she is :)

I was never really sold on having kids or not having kids, but this sweet baby has definitely grown on me.
